From a Student's Perspective: The Impact of a Challenger Experience

DEANNA KIDD

Biomedical Engineering Student
University of Cincinnati
Attended JM Stumbo Elementary, Floyd County

"I attended Challenger in 2010 as a sixth grader. The whole experience was phenomenal, from the education section to actual mission. I was already in love with science by the time that I attended Challenger, but both the education portion of the day and the mission made me much more excited about the subjects I was learning. Everything we did was not only relevant to the space mission, but could also be used in different fields of science. My role in the mission showed me just how important communication and teamwork are, which has helped me immensely in my studies to become an engineer. It made science fun and really interesting, even to those students that typically didn't enjoy the subject. I loved it, and would definitely encourage others to participate."
